Biography - Phillip Russell

PHILLIP RUSSELL grew up in Sydney where he first took art lessons after school at the age of sixteen at Joe Holloway's Art Studio at The Haymarket. After completing a design course at East Sydney Technical College, he travelled overseas and lived in England for three years, taking time out to study the museums and art galleries of Europe and to develop his work.

Qualifications
  • 4-year Fine Arts Diploma at the Julian Ashton Art School, Sydney: Phillip Musket landscape prize in final year
  • Tamworth TAFE: Advanced Diploma in Fine Arts
  • Newcastle University: B.F.A. (Hons)

  • 1973 - 75 Acquisition of "Blue Mountains Landscape" and "Farm Landscape" by the Reserve Bank of Australia, 65 Martin Place, Sydney through the Macquarie Galleries
  • 1980 Murdoch University S.A. art requisition: painting selected by Clifton Pugh
  • 1986 Landscape painting purchased for the Douglas Moran Collection
  • 1990 Acquisition of two paintings in the Commonwealth Collection, Sydney
  • 1997 Acquisition of a painting by Rotary Club of Turkey
